Hex Vom Dasenstein - Baden, Germany

  • Hex vom Dasenstein is a large cooperative from the Baden region of southern Germany.
  • The cooperative is in the village of Kappelrodeck. All the growers in this village cultivate grapes for the cooperative.
  • The production is about 98% pinot noir.
  • The name Hex vom Dasenstein means the witch of Dasenstein in German. The name comes from a local story about the daughter of the town’s nobleman. In 1356AD, she had an affair with a commoner from the village of Kappelrodeck. When her father found out, he kicked her out of the castle. The daughter spent the rest of her life living in a cave in the side of agigantic rock (the Dasenstein) that sits in the middle of one of the vineyards. As the woman grew older, her nose grew longer, her face became very wrinkled and the locals called her the Hex vom Dasenstein.

  • Amour Pinot Noir

Amour, French for Love, is a semi-sweet red made from 100% Pinot Noir.  There is a market for sweet Red wines, but very little product available.  The Amour is fruity, but not overly sweet.  The wine has wonderful cherry and berry flavors, a velvety texture and a soft finish.  This is the perfect beginner wine for customers just getting into reds. 10% Alc.  48 grams RS/L.
  • Blanc De Noir

The Blanc de Noir is a still white Pinot Noir made by not allowing the skins to come in contact with the juice.  The wine is not like any other white wine.  It is a white that has red fruit flavors. The wine has red raspberry fruit, hints of cranberry and a crisp, zippy finish.  13% Alc.
  • Rivaner

Rivaner is another name for the grape, Muller Thurgau and is a great alternative to Pinot Grigio.  The wine has bright apple and pear fruit with crisp citrus fruits on the finish with hints of honeydew melon.  This is the perfect sipper for a casual evening with friends or with spicy tuna rolls.  12% Alc.
  • Hexecco Blanc

Hexecco (witch secco) is a play of the name for a class of sparklers in Germany called Secco.  The Blanc is one of three Secco sparklers and is 100% Rivaner.  This is a wonderful, fruit-forward sparkler that is a great alternative to Prosecco.  11.5% Alc.
  • Hexecco Rosé

With 100% Pinot Noir, this Rosé sparkler is loaded with soft red berry fruits and plenty of bubbles to make this wine very festive whether it is a special occasion or just a Monday evening.
  • Hexecco Rouge

Red sparklers are very rare on the American market.  With the exception of some Australian sparkling Shirazes, they just don’t exist.  This 100% Pinot Noir red sparklers is a fun new twist on sparkling wines.  Off-dry in style, this sparkler has ruby red cherry fruit, plenty of bubbles and a little tannic backbone on the finish.  11% Alc.
